Vancouver Film School’s 2024 showreel just dropped and we are thrilled to share some massive accomplishments and achievements last year from our students, alumni, faculty, and industry partners.
Despite the hardships and uncertainties with the writers and actors’ strikes last year, all areas of the creative industry persisted in pushing the creative momentum forward. For film and television, we had VFS Acting alum Jillian Dion play a pivotal role in Martin Scorsese’s award-winning Killers of the Flower Moon, and VFS Makeup Design Instructor Crissy Renaud crushed the prosthetics set dressing for The Last of Us. We have a lot to celebrate in the game industry as well with Game Design students winning a Unity Award for Best Student Project (the fourth Unity win for VFS Game Design students, no big deal), and Writing for Film, Television & Games alum Tyler Burton Smith winning Best Narrative at the Game Awards for Alan Wake II – keep an eye out for his testimonial in the reel!
2023 marked a year of exciting new changes for VFS. In addition to the year-round events VFS hosts to introduce aspiring creatives to the VFS student experience and present student work directly to the industry through exclusive showcases, we also introduced a brand-new event series: All Access Pass. A VFS event like never before, prospective students can get an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience of what our specific programs have to offer through demos, industry roundtables, and more.
We could go on, but we want to leave some surprises! VFS strives to push creative boundaries and we’re thrilled to showcase a reel that celebrates so many creative individuals exceling at what they love. Like always, we’re looking forward to continuing this momentum for the year to come and can’t wait to see what incredible projects are in store!
