Digital Makeup Design

The latest addition to the Makeup artist's toolkit isn't a brush or a gel, it's Photoshop and a hard drive. It's not a matter of deciding between a career as a traditional or a digital makeup artist, today's best professionals must know how to do both. Increasingly, makeup artists are being asked to create conceptual "pre-visualizations" for their characters. In the past, these designs were sketched, or painted by hand, but today the computer is an effective, time and money-saving tool in the pre-production process. Once an actor has been cast in the role, the computer can be used to do a photo-realistic virtual makeup design by digitally altering the actor's photograph. Anything that can be done by hand can be changed digitally, and our instructors will show you how to use Photoshop for simple changes - adjusting eye, or skin colour, and creating hair styles - right up to developing full fantasy and horror creature elements to a face. Digital Makeup design is an essential new addition to the artist's toolkit.
