Game Design

In this video, experience a sample of work created by students in the one-year Game Design program.

One Year Game Design Program at Vancouver Film School

The Game Design program at VFS takes you from concept to alpha to beta to final in just one year. You work closely with video game industry mentors in an immersive environment that mirrors that of a professional studio as you design, produce, and present fully playable games. Storytelling, level design, game art, motion capture, scripting, cinematics, and the business of games are all just a part of what you will learn.

A Top-10 school favoured by game industry recruiters.

The Results – Selected Alumni Credits

"VFS made it easy to connect with various companies in the industry. Although the onus was on us to foster the relationships that would lead to jobs, the staff at VFS provided a 'foot in the door' that gave me an opportunity to prove myself."

- Armando Troisi, Game Design Graduate
  Lead Cinematic Designer, BioWare Corp

What You Will Learn

From analog games to machinima to designing game interfaces: what you will learn in six terms covers the entire game design process.

Make Games, Make Your Mark

When you graduate, you'll be ready to work on any game design team, combining gameplay, story, graphics, and sound into playable game experiences. Why? Because you've done it already at VFS: learning by doing, creating a professional portfolio with everything from pen-and-paper games to casual Flash games to full-blown next-gen games. See our Showcase for examples of student work.

Connect with Industry

Vancouver is a world hub of game development. Our instructors and mentors come right from that industry and are your first - and often your best - professional network. Near the end of your year at VFS, you'll have the chance to present your finished games to an audience of insiders and recruiters at industry presentation night, where you can forge priceless career connections.
